Vermont Vows OR Rainy Day Bliss

A return to the “Green Mountain State,” where they first fell in love

Meredith and Ben, now both consultants, met as fellow students at a Middlebury College Halloween party. They knew they wanted to get married near their university since they have an affinity for Vermont. During their first visit to Manchester to tour venues, they quickly discovered it was the perfect town for their wedding, a destination they knew their families would adore, too. As soon as they saw it, they fell in love with the Taconic and its beautiful porch. They had already read so much about the venue’s wonderful food and, after getting the chance to walk around the ballroom and terrace, they declared it the perfect spot for their big day.

Memorable Details

The duo had planned to have their ceremony outside on the lawn, but the entire day proved rainy and humid. With the team’s help, they pivoted to have everything moved inside onto the ballroom dance floor. Their guests made a standing human aisle for them, with grandparents and older guests sitting near the front. They walked down the aisle with their parents, and stood at the front with their wedding party, featuring beautiful flowers from Kingsley Floral Co and with Ben’s brother officiating. The ceremony was short and sweet, with lots of laughs, some tears and personal vows each had written. Afterward, everyone went to the terrace for a cocktail hour and delicious hors d'oeuvres. The married couple ran back to the cottage they were staying in to bustle Meredith’s gown, and then returned to the terrace to grab lobster sliders ASAP.

The couple found Taconic to be the perfect mix of a cozy and elegant Vermont hotel — that they knew all of their friends and family would love.

The dinner and reception were held in the ballroom, which was decorated with gorgeous flowers, a huge dessert spread with mini-desserts from Dina’s Bakery Cafe, a small couple’s cake and a mountain of homemade cookies baked by the bride’s great aunts and cousins. A live 8-piece band, showcasing a talented brass section, made a memorable entrance with a choreographed dance to “Best of My Love” by The Emotions. After dinner and toasts, everyone hit the dance floor, where jumbo, foam glow sticks ordered by the bride’s mother proved a huge hit for all ages.

The bride wore a Lillian West gown, the groom a tux by Suitsupply. A moment they’ll remember forever? Spending their cocktail hour on the terrace, on a rainy and humid day, surrounded by all of their loved ones being in the same beautiful place. On their honeymoon night, they slept in the Bennett Cottage. They wholeheartedly thanked the Taconic team for all of their help in helping to create the couple’s “perfect wedding.”
